His practice encompasses all areas of general corporate and partnership income taxation with particular emphasis on forming and representing US and international venture capital and private equity funds and structuring other partnership and joint venture arrangements. Mark has experience in structuring and implementing both taxable and tax-free acquisitions and dispositions of stock and assets of public and private companies. He has also represented U.S. corporations in connection with their foreign activities and foreign corporations in connection with their U.S. activities. Mark frequently lectures and publishes on the tax aspects of forming and operating both U.S. and international venture capital and private equity funds and other partnership arrangements as well as other US and international tax-related topics. Organizations and publications for which Mark has presented or published include: Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst, Financial Research Associates LLC, Institutional Limited Partners Association, Strategic Research Institute – Alternative Investment Roundup, the European Venture Capital Association, Osgoode Hall Law School York University, ALI-ABA, Buyouts Magazine, Journal of Multistate Taxation and Incentives, and AltAssets. Before joining Gunderson Dettmer, Mark was a partner in Nixon Peabody’s Private Equity and Venture Capital Group. Mark was also an attorney-advisor to the Honorable Robert P. Ruwe, United States Tax Court. Mark received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Gonzaga University and also holds an LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University. He earned his B.S., magna cum laude, from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Mark is admitted to practice in California, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. | |
